Known for his strong leadership, Tewdrig initially ruled with honor and integrity. However, as a father, he made a profound decision: he abdicated the throne in favor of his son, Meurig, seeking a simpler, more spiritual life as a hermit. In this retreat, he found solace in prayer and reflection, distancing himself from the struggles of kingship.
Yet, Tewdrig's calling was not finished. When Saxon forces threatened his son’s kingdom, the people turned to their former king, recalling him from his hermitage to lead the army. With deep resolve, Tewdrig donned his armor once more, embodying the spirit of a protector. In a fierce battle against the invaders, he led his troops valiantly, securing victory for his son and the kingdom. Tragically, this triumph came at a cost; Tewdrig was mortally wounded in the fight. His sacrifice, defending a Christian realm, elevated him to the status of martyr, as he laid down his life for the sake of his people and faith.
