Born in the early 3rd century in Nomentum, present-day Mentana, Saints Primus and Felician grew up in a time of great turmoil for Christians in the Roman Empire. As they reached adulthood, the edicts of Emperor Diocletian unleashed a wave of persecution, targeting those who professed their faith openly. The brothers, deeply committed to their beliefs, could not remain silent amidst the cries of their fellow Christians facing persecution. They chose to stand firm in their faith, becoming beacons of hope for their community.
Their courageous stance soon led them to be arrested and brought before the authorities. Despite facing intense pressure to renounce their beliefs, Primus and Felician remained resolute. They were subjected to brutal treatment, yet their spirits remained unbroken. Ultimately, their unwavering commitment to their faith led to their martyrdom around the year 297 AD. They were laid to rest at the fourteenth milestone of the Via Nomentana, a site that has since become a place of pilgrimage, honoring their sacrifice and enduring legacy of faith.
