#ThePeacemaker #TheServant #TheWarrior

Herculanus of Piegaro was a courageous Franciscan preacher whose life of faith and dedication to service inspired many during the 15th century. His story reminds us of the power of prayer and the strength found in community.

Their Story

Born in the quaint town of Piegaro, Herculanus of Piegaro felt the call to serve God from an early age. He joined the Franciscan Convent of the Strict Observance at Sarteano, where he honed his theological understanding under the guidance of Albert Berdini. His commitment to faith led him to travel far beyond the rolling hills of Tuscany. Accompanying Berdini as a diplomatic envoy of Pope Eugene IV, Herculanus journeyed to the sacred lands of Jerusalem and Cairo, experiencing the deep-rooted history of his faith firsthand.

After his ordination as a priest, Herculanus embraced a life of solitude and prayer, seeking a deeper connection with God. This period of reflection transformed him into one of the most compelling preachers of his time. His passionate oratory rallied the citizens of Lucca in 1430, inspiring them to unite against the Florentine forces. His fervor for peace and justice resonated deeply with the people, reinforcing their faith during tumultuous times. Following a profound pilgrimage to the Holy Land, Herculanus returned to Tuscany, dedicating his final years to a monastery he founded in Castelnuovo, where he passed away on May 28, 1451. His incorrupt body was later enshrined, a testament to his holiness and lasting impact.
