Born Pietro Fioretti on November 13, 1668, in Bottarone, Viterbo, Crispin's humble beginnings laid the groundwork for a life dedicated to faith and service. From a young age, he showed a deep devotion to the Mother of God, becoming consecrated to her protection at just six years old. His early years were marked by simplicity, and even as a young cook in Orvieto, he created a small altar to honor Mary, showcasing his deep commitment to spirituality amidst daily tasks.
As Crispin matured, he took on various roles within the Order of Friars Minor Capuchin across the regions surrounding Rome. His reputation as a wise and compassionate figure grew, attracting the attention of nobility and even Pope Clement XI, who sought his counsel. His life was not without challenges; yet, Crispin’s warm humor and genuine kindness allowed him to overcome obstacles, transforming struggles into opportunities for service. Known as a wonderworker, he performed miracles that brought hope to those in need, solidifying his legacy as a beloved figure. After his death on May 19, 1750, calls for his canonization began almost immediately, culminating in his official sainthood in 1982 under Pope John Paul II.
