Born in Gartan, Tyrconnell, on December 7, 521 AD, Columba was raised in a time when Christianity was spreading throughout Ireland. From a young age, he displayed a deep commitment to faith, studying under prominent church leaders and establishing several monasteries. However, a dispute over a precious manuscript led to a turning point in his life. Feeling the weight of his actions, Columba sought penance and dedicated himself to spreading the Gospel beyond his homeland.

In 563 AD, accompanied by twelve companions, he crossed the sea to Kintyre, embarking on a journey that would change the course of history. Settling on the sacred island of Iona, Columba founded Iona Abbey, a beacon of spirituality and learning. From this base, he tirelessly evangelized the pagan Pictish kingdoms, overcoming numerous challenges, including resistance and cultural barriers. His charisma and dedication drew followers and transformed the hearts of many, solidifying his role as one of the Twelve Apostles of Ireland.
